Tinnitus

Tinnitus

Tinnitus is a noise heard in one or both ears.  The sound and degree of loudness vary from person to person.  Tinnitus can sound like a high-pitched rigning, but to others it may sound like a roar, buzzing, hissing, crickes/locus, or even a sea shell.  It can be intermittent or continuous and vary in severity from mild to incapacitating.  while tinnitus doesn't cause hearing loss, it may accompany many different hearing disorders.

Some causes of tinnitus may be wax build up in the ear canal, a perforation of the eardurm, fluid accumulatinn in the middle ear space, ototsclerosis, infection, allergies, injury/trauma, arthritis, excessive noise exposure,TMJ, or ototoxic medications.

Over the years we have observed that there is a substantial incicence of tinnitus accompanying hearing loss and have found that in many cases hearing aids often help diminish the severity, or for some eleminite their awareness of it.
